What truly matters...
A short exercise to find out where your priorities are and should be.
Hi everyone,
At the beginning of the year, I started a 'Ta Jar'. Each week, I write on a piece of paper one thing I'm grateful for and add it to the jar. Right now, I have so many things to be thankful for, it's hard to choose!
Last weekend I was in Wales for a Yoga & Breathwork for MS workshop and had a great time. It was so nice to connect with people, meet face to face and have wonderful conversations.
Prioritising what truly matters
One of the conversations I had in Wales was about the concept of making space in your life and prioritising what truly matters. Time is so precious! I'd like to share a very practical exercise - that my friend Ingrid told me about - using pie charts to visualise how you spend your time.
1. What matters to you
Create a simple pie chart and divide it into segments based on the various aspects of your life that matter to you. For example: your family, your work, your health... Each aspect represents one segment, and the size of the segment should be proportionate to its importance for you. You can have as many segments as you want.
This is just an example... ok maybe vaguely related to my own case (but simplified so it only includes some areas).
It is not that easy, is it? There are a few more categories I would include in a complete pie chart (learning, spirituality, socialising, reading, cooking, helping...)
2. Time you spent
Now create another simple pie chart this time representing how much time you spend on the different areas of your life. For example, work, family, leisure activities, self-care, and so on.
Here is an example... ok maybe closely related to my own simplified case this time!
Ouch!
Even though it is a simplified version, the only area I'm doing ok is 'health' (teaching yoga does help!) but I'm clearly spending far too little time with my family & pets... and too much on work.
What about you? Is work taking too much of your time? What about your health? Do you give it enough time?
I secretly hope you that you will realise how important yoga is for you and that you need to give it more time ;-)
See you on the mat
Véronique
